Yom Kippur is Judaism’s most sacred day of the year, it is referred to as the Sabbath of Sabbaths. Jews worship on this day and participate in the religious service of God. The Torah commands all Jewish people to do fast and abstain from eating and drinking food or water between sundown on the evening before Yom Kippur and till the next day nightfall. They believe that they do fast not as a punishment but cleanse the body. Religious jews people make additional restrictions like bathing, washing, using cosmetics for ladies, using leather and any sexual relations. These restrictions are done to focus on worship of God and pray for their soul. High Holy Day prayer is read or sung from a special prayer book known as the machzor. On Yom Kippur, all family members and friends gather together to break 25 hours of fasting. After breaking the fast people return home for a festive meal.
